| Closing out an event |
[19 Jul 2006|10:31am] |
|
Here are all the times we have closed out events at a Great Debate or took control of at least two of the four top offices (Gov., Lt. Gov., Speaker, Chief Justice) at an LDZ.
A couple of notes: the older classes, I cannot remember some last names so I am just putting first names for everyone. Second, the winner of the round is denoted by being listed first. Third, we have completely closed out an event two times by getting all three awards: 1998 Oratory at Ambassador and 2003 Impromptu at Ambassador. In 2002 Ambassador, we completely closed out the tournament by winning all four events, a second in Impromptu and the Silver Cup.
1998 Texas Ambassador Oratory Selina vs. Nida (Chrstine Schwartz got All State)
1998 Texas Ambassador Extemp Carlos P. vs. Andy
1999 Texas Ambassador Oratory Maida vs. Pinkie
2002 Texas Ambassador Oratory Nick P. vs. April G.
2002 Texas Ambassador First Places in all four events Mock: Melody and Illeana CX: Carisa and Erik G. O: Nick P. X: Becky G. I: Marco 2nd Place RGVYLC: Silver Cup Champion
2002 Colorado LDZ Speaker of the House of Representatives: Kevin Sanchez Chief Justice of the Supreme Court: Eddie Lopez
2003 Texas Ambassador Extemp Alyssa R. vs. Gabriel C.
2003 Texas Ambassador Impromptu Pam vs. Anna L. (Claudia E. got All State)

Bulletin from Sherman
We advanced five orators, five cx teams, five extempers and all six mock teams in the All Star rounds..
We advanced 30 kids and Houston advanced 34 kids. There are about 5 RGV vs. Houston Sweet 32 rounds tomorrow. So the cup will be decided pretty early.
Please pray. Pray all you can.
I have a good feeling that this is our year.

| The Trailblazing Class of 2002 |
[12 Aug 2005|05:49pm] |

I am going to miss these kids. That's Marce, Alma, Dana and Jonathon as sophomores as they embarked upon being coaches. Now they are embarking on the adventure of their lives...freshman year of college. They are all pretty amazing. They were great participants and tremendous coaches. This picture captures the joy that they brought to this program every Sunday afternoon over the last four years.
Also pictured is Melody Garcia, who embarks on her senior year at Edinburg High School and a pretty incredible person herself.
The 2002 class provided us with some of our best staff people: Bobby, Monkey, Charley and Amanda Espinosa.
Thank you RGVYLC Class of 2002 for getting us to where we are now.
